Trees Hate You Demo Versions: Browser, Windows, and Steam

Compare the Trees Hate You browser demo, itch.io Windows build, and Steam Demo using current official platform and feature information.

Short answer

The useful version.

Use itch.io for the official HTML5 build or Windows download. Use Steam for the separate free demo with Steam Cloud and the advertised Challenge Mode. The developer says the Steam version may be slightly more up to date.

01

Official itch.io browser build

The itch.io page is the developer's official browser location. It lists HTML5 and Windows platforms, keyboard and controller input, and a short average session.

As reviewed on August 9, 2026, the downloadable itch.io file is labeled Version 19 and dated May 5, 2026. Treat the official page as the source for the latest version label rather than copying that number indefinitely.

02

Official Windows download

The itch.io Windows download is the practical fallback when the web build has low frame rate. It avoids browser and iframe limitations while keeping you on the developer's official distribution page.

The official listing identifies a 108 MB Windows download for the reviewed build. File sizes and version numbers can change with later updates.

03

Separate Steam Demo

The Steam Demo launched on April 24, 2026. Steam lists single-player support and Steam Cloud, while its description confirms character customization, two full levels plus a short transition, at least one hat, and Challenge Mode.

The itch.io page says the Steam demo is a little more up to date. Choose Steam when you want its platform features or the clearest current route to Challenge Mode.

04

Do not confuse the demo with the full game

The full Trees Hate You store page is a separate listing with a planned 2026 release. It advertises a larger game with several biomes, collectible hats, Steam Achievements, and Steam Cloud.

The browser and Steam demos are playable now; the full game is not yet released as of this page's review date.
