Troubleshooting
Trees Hate You Not Loading? Browser and Low-FPS Fixes
Fix a black screen, stuck load, missing controls, or low frame rate in the Trees Hate You browser demo, with official fallback options.
Short answer
The useful version.
Reload once, try another current desktop browser, and close heavy tabs. If the web build still has low frame rate, the developer recommends the itch.io app or downloadable Windows version; the Steam Demo is another free fallback.
- Officially reported issue
- Low frame rate in the web version
- Fast first fix
- Try another current browser
- Reliable fallback
- Windows or Steam Demo
- Game download
- Loads only after Play is pressed here
Separate loading from input problems
A blank or unmoving frame can mean two different things. If no game image appears, the external build may still be loading or blocked. If the game appears but the character does not move, the frame probably lacks keyboard focus.
Wait for the loading overlay to disappear. Then click inside the frame and test one movement key. This avoids changing several settings before you know which problem you have.
Work through the browser fixes in order
Start with a normal reload. Next, close video, game, or 3D tabs that compete for memory and graphics resources. Then try another up-to-date desktop browser.
Privacy extensions, network filters, and strict iframe settings can block an externally hosted game even when the fan-site page loads normally. Test in a clean private window only as a diagnosis; re-enable your normal protections afterward.
- Reload and wait for the frame to finish.
- Click inside the frame before testing controls.
- Close graphics-heavy tabs and applications.
- Try another current desktop browser.
- Use an official downloadable build if the issue remains.
Handle low frame rate
Tykenn notes that some players report low frame rates in the web version. The official recommendations are to try a different browser, use the itch.io app, or use the downloadable version.
A lower frame rate can make trap timing feel inconsistent. Switching builds is usually more productive than repeatedly changing gameplay strategy around a performance problem.
Use the official fallback links
The itch.io page hosts the HTML5 and Windows versions. Steam provides a separate free demo. If this site's external embed is blocked by your browser or network, those official pages are the safest alternatives.
Avoid downloading copies from unknown mirror sites. The official pages provide the current developer-published builds and update context.
